Riding the Wave Together:

Family Support Group

family members or loved ones of those living with a substance use disorder often do not have support of their own. One may feel isolated, Stigmatized and stressed…

This group is open to all family members and loved ones of those in recovery or living with a substance use disorder. Each session, our facilitator, a Licensed Social Worker, will present a topic/discussion for the group surrounding addiction and recovery to help members learn something new and have tangible tools to take home to practice. There will also be time dedicated for the group to openly discuss whatever they feel is weighing on them, and to get support and advice from the facilitator and other members. It will be a safe environment to express oneself with others experiencing a similar situation.

We will gather through a virtual meeting for an hour and 15 minutes with other members who are going through a similar experience. Professionally facilitated by a Licensed Social Worker, the group will meet once a month, with the ability to become more frequent if there is enough interest.

It is free of charge, made possible by our donors and supporters.

Meghan graduated from Saint Joseph's University with a Major in Psychology and a Minor in Sociology. She then went on to the University of Pennsylvania to pursue her Masters in Social Work, obtaining her License in Social Work upon graduation. Meghan's professional experience is very well-rounded. She has worked at a women's center, managing a single mother's support group and assisting with phone calls on their crisis hotline. She has worked in the Philadelphia prison system, working with adult males both pre and post incarceration, providing counseling and connecting them with resources upon release from jail and back into society and advocating on their progress in court. She also worked with juvenile males at a facility providing counseling to those individuals and their families, as well as attending court hearings to support the youth. Meghan's most recent career path led her to work at a residential treatment center for teenage girls with acute mental health needs, addiction, and trauma. She provided individual, family, and group counseling, as well as case management in coordination with other organizations. Meghan is also strongly involved in the recovery community on a personal level and can often be found reaching her hand out to someone in need.
